UNI Seeks Part-Time Fund Fundraising Consultant for Kansas City Neighborhood Academy

The Urban Neighborhood Initiative (UNI) has a part-time position for a fund development associate or consultant to assist our organization and the school we have established (see “About Kansas City Neighborhood Academy,” below) in its 2018 fundraising activities, including:

• Development and execution of integrated fundraising strategies across multiple initiatives and programs;
• Prospect research and cultivation towards donor acquisition (individual, corporate, and foundation prospects);
• Donor stewardship and engagement outreach;
• Enhancement (content and frequency) of fundraising appeals to current, past, and prospective funders with retention/upgrade as well as acquisition deliverables;
• Active solicitation independently and with UNI Board and staff;
• Assess and develop new revenue streams including, as examples, special events and/or social enterprise.

Experience with donor management data systems is a plus, to develop a system to store and track pertinent donor information.

It is estimated that the initial contract period would be six months (March - August). Terms are dependent on consultant or part time employee hired; their approach to work; and the final scope of work and deliverables agreed upon. It is intended that initial contract success enables an extension of the consulting contract/employment.

About The Urban Neighborhood Initiative

The Urban Neighborhood Initiative (UNI) was formed in 2012 through a partnership between the Greater Kansas City United Way and the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce (KCCC). It is one of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s “Big 5” initiatives. Based on these initiatives, UNI was established as a 501(c) (3) in recognition that the work called for a long-term commitment. The ten neighborhoods in the identified target area became UNI’s Partners and the organization bases its work on their priorities and input.

UNI’s mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty by helping to build healthy neighborhoods that enable all children and families to succeed and thrive. UNI works in partnership with neighborhood organizations and residents and through collaborative relationships with business, industry, government and community organizations
Building healthy neighborhoods and breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty is a challenging and complex task. UNI has moved to build those healthy neighborhoods by implementing programs, activities and strategies that address neighborhood priorities. We employ a comprehensive approach to “place” that includes a focus on Education, Health and Safety and Prosperity for these neighborhoods and their residents.

About Kansas City Neighborhood Academy

In accordance with our mission of building healthy neighborhoods UNI has established an elementary school, Kansas City Neighborhood Academy (KCNA). We are committed to raising funds to ensure the school, described below, is successful.

KCNA, an independent 501(c) (3), is an elementary charter school with the Kansas City Public Schools serving as sponsor. Current enrollment is 200 Pre-Kindergarten through third grade students. The school will add a grade each year through fifth grade. KCNA had very positive year one outcomes and is structured based on the following framework.

• Project based learning with an emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) to build 21st century skills
• An intense focus on literacy and math that includes both special literacy and math labs
• Enhanced supports that include an on-site social worker a Manager of Family Services and After School Programs, and a partnership with Communities in Schools
• Recruiting and retaining talented, committed educators and staff; and

• Keeping pace with academic/classroom technology.
