UNI kicks-off summer with Fun & Fitness Fair May 14

The Urban Neighborhood Initiative is teaming-up with The Junior League of Kansas City, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center and Kansas City University to host the first-ever Fun and Fitness Fair to get families and children off to a safe and healthy summer. The Fun and Fitness Fair is open to the public Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will take place at Spring Valley Park, near E. 27th St. and Woodland Ave. in Kansas City.

New Kansas City Neighborhood Academy Hires Principal


Dr. Robin E. Henderson has been hired by the Kansas City Neighborhood Academy (KCNA) to serve as principal of the new high-performance charter school. Dr. Henderson previously served as the Executive Director of Memphis Teacher Residency. Other previous posts include Associate Professor of Education at Union University and Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Indiana Wesleyan University and Dean of Students and classroom teacher at the elementary level.

UNI to hold first Health Resource Fair Nov. 7

Urban Neighborhood Initiative (UNI) will host its first-ever Health Resource Fair Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at DeLaSalle Education Center -- 3737 Troost Ave.

UNI is partnering with Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) to administer flu shots and health screenings for children, while the Samuel U. Rogers Health Center will provide screenings for adults. Flu shots are free for the first 300 people in attendance, ages 4 and older. UNI is planning to give away vouchers for turkeys, as well as other gift items, to Health Resource Fair attendees.

Second Community Engagement Training Session Set for Oct. 24

UNI is hosting its second Community Engagement Training Session Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Bancroft School Apartments. This is a unique opportunity to develop skills for all areas of life, such as leadership skills, relationship building, community empowerment and collective decision-making.

More than 400 career seekers and 28 employers representing a wide range of fields attended the 2015 UNI Hiring Fair Sept. 22 at St. James United Methodist Church. The annual event connects companies in the Kansas City area with interested candidates.

Success By 6 Announces Play to Learn Events
